5 Year Anniversary Party Announcement (UPDATE)

5 Year Anniversary Party Flyer

5 Year Anniversary Party Flyer

2013 marks the 5th year that The Americana Rock Mix has been up and running. 5 freaking years… And to celebrate, we’re having a party. It’s not a cake and ice cream party, it’s a beer and live music party.

On Saturday, June 15th we’re having our shindig in St. Petersburg, FL at one of my favorite spots to catch live music, Crum’s Bar And Grill. (65 beers on tap!)

$5 at the door gets you in, along with your first raffle ticket for door prizes an A.R.M. sticker with an exclusive party only episode. And we’ll be raffling off other items throughout the night.

ALSO, Florida Beer Company will be in the house doing some awesome promo stuff as well. Maybe free beer, hmmm?

I understand than a lot of you are out of the country. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy any of it. If you buy at ticket from the pre-sale, you will still receive the 5 Year Anniversary Episode that is only exclusive to party-goers and ticket holders. So think about it. Your contribution will help towards funding the party!

Ticket pre-sales are going on now. And can be found right HERE!

The (current) line-up for the night consists of:

Branden Barnett (of Ghost Shirt)
Cory Call and Kyle Oppold (of Arliss Nancy)
Matt Woods
Michael Dean Damron (of I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House!)
and tba

Hear all these artists and their bands in the newest ARM episode at http://wp.me/pgvK0-PX

Robert Childs’ Guitar – Branden Barnett

You may be thinking “WTF is Von doing posting something that belongs on NineBullets.net?” Well, the truth of the matter is that, since I took the video, and Bryan is backed up with other things he’s doing with NineBullets.net, he told me that I need to post it. And we both agreed that I’d just save him the effort.

This video is the result of a night of heavy drinking and a group 5 men ending up in a restroom together for 20 minutes. There’s a raw quality to this video. I left in the false start to give you an idea of what condition everyone was in that night. Except Branden, who was performing that night and stayed sober like a true professional.

Branden is performing “The Blood Your Remember, The Blood You Forget” which will appear on Ghost Shirt’s next album.

Later this week, we’ll have another episode featuring Lauris Vidal.

To watch more artists perform on Robert Childs’ guitar. Check out NineBullets.net.

Top 28 Of 2012

I was going to wait until the next episode came out to release this, but here it is anyway.

It’s no small statement that I make when I say that 2012 was a truly impeccable year for music. The independent spirit is making a large stretch into the mainstream media. The DIY bands are demonstrating long strides and making headway into the cultural congregation of the “hip”. Just as the fray and fringe, just outside the peripheral of that same cultural eye, becomes new territory to conquer and exploit. And that’s not a bad thing.

With that being said, in this years list I did away with the big names. The Bruce Springsteen’s and the Jack White’s of the music industry don’t belong on this list. They have their names in the proper spotlights of Rolling Stone and Spin magazines.

This list is The Americana Rock Mix’s representation of the aforementioned fringe and fray. The bands that caught my ear and kept tugging on my earlobes throughout 2012.

I had set a few guidelines for myself:

1. No “Greatest Hits” or “Collections”.
2. No “Live Albums” (as they typically become one of the above).
3. Must be a minimum of 7 songs OR 30 Minutes long. Just to keep it fair with the full length albums (typically 10 songs or 45+ minutes).

#3 put me in a hard position that I tried to tackle in Episode 168. If you enjoy the episodes where I drive myself crazy, give it a listen.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to it. Listed in alphabetical order.

Alabama Shakes – “Boys And Girls
American Aquarium – “Burn.Flicker.Die
Arliss Nancy – “Simple Machines”
Big Kettle Drum – “Big Kettle Drum
The Bohannons – “Unaka Rising
Branden Barnett – “Verse Chorus Curse
Cobalt & The Hired Guns – “Everybody Wins
Cory Branan – “Mutt
The Creak – “Here, Hold This
The Damn Choir – “You’re My Secret Called Fire
Deathbarrel – “Merciless Winds
The District Attorneys – “Slowburner
Doc Dailey & The Magnolia Devil – “Catch The Presidents
Eastbound Jesus – “Holy Smokes
Fistful Of Beard – “Until We Know Better
The Harmed Brothers – “Come Morning
Justin Townes Earle – “Nothing’s Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now
Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires – “There Is A Bomb In Gilead
Lincoln Durham – “The Shovel VS. The Howling Bones
Micheal Dean Damron – “Nah Mr. Death… I’ma Comin’ For You
The Pollies – “Where The Lies Begin
The Porter Draw – “California Widow
Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band – “Between The Ditches
Rosie Flores – “Working Girl’s Guitar
Some Dark Holler – “Hollow Chest
Sunday Valley – “To The Wind and On to Heaven
Tin Horn Prayer – “Grapple The Rails
